January 8 | Boasting In the Cross (Josh Rozek)
We live in a world where we love to boast about our favorite sports team, our favorite food, or maybe even a great movie we just watched in theatres, but do you ever feel as if our boasting has been misplaced? In Galatians 6:14, Paul tells us that our boasting should be in the cross only. This is not a command to not enjoy the good things that God has given us, but rather an invitation to see those good things through a different lens.
LAKES STUDENTS | HIGHLIGHT FOR PARENTS OF STUDENTS
We are pleased to inform you that after an extensive interview process, much prayer and deliberation from our elders, we have extended a job offer to Josh Broyles as our new Lakes Student Pastor. He has accepted the offer and his official start date will be January 15, 2023. Praise God!
Youth Group starts back up on Thursday, January 18th. Students are welcome to arrive from 6:30pm for a casual hang out time for the first half hour, and we will start the program at 7pm. This next Thursday we are kicking off the new year with pizza, games, a short teaching and fun! If you are the parent of a student and are currently not receiving Student emails (would have come from Josh Rozek prior, but are coming from Communications Director, Birgitte Dewaele, currently), please reach out as soon as possible to Birgitte at birgitte.dewaele@thelakescc.org so we can get our records updated.
High School Grow Groups start back up that week also, but will be moving to meeting on Mondays instead of Sunday nights moving forward. First Grow Group is January 16th at the Dewaele house. All high schoolers welcome!

NEW ROOTED GROUP | MONDAY NIGHTS, STARTING JANUARY 16TH
Rooted is designed for all people but especially new people to the church, new Christians, and those who are looking for a refresh to their spiritual lives. We have seasonal 10-week Rooted groups running a few times every year with a new one starting January 16th, hosted in West Bloomfield.
NEW WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY| WEDNESDAY NIGHTS, 1/18-3/8
New Lakes Women Bible Study running on Wednesdays from January 20-March 8 on the upper level of the building. We will be diving into the book Isaiah by Melissa Spoelstra (Lifeway).
CLASS: HOW TO TEACHING THE BIBLE | FOUR SATURDAYS
We are excited to have Pastor Mark teaching a four-part class on How to Teach the Bible. This class will run for four months, on the fourth Saturday of January, February, March and April (1/28, 2/25, 3/25, 4/22) from 9:30-11:00 AM on the 2nd floor of the building! Register today to save your spot!
WOMEN’S CHAT-A-LATTE | JANUARY 14TH
NEXT BAPTISM SUNDAY | JANUARY 15TH
Baptism is the natural next step once we are saved! It represents the new life that Jesus’ resurrection gives us and a public sign of our faith in Christ. If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, we invite you to take this opportunity to demonstrate your faith in Christ.
We will have an opportunity to get baptized during both services on Sunday, January 15th. Please fill out this form to let me know you are interested in getting baptized or simply respond to this email.
Core Ministries – Weekly Update
EARLY CHILDHOOD – Early Childhood (Birth – Kindergarten) program available during the 9 and 11 Sunday services.
ELEMENTARY AGE (KIDS CREEK) – Elementary program (Grades 1st – 5th) is open during the 9 and 11 Sunday services and also meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8pm*.
*Note that Tuesday night Kids Creek is breaking for the Christmas season but will pick up again next Tuesday, January 10th.*
THURSDAY YOUTH GROUP – Middle School and High School students meet on Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 for a combined youth group (MS and HS will split for teaching/small group time).
First Youth Group of the year will be January 18th – Join us for pizza, games, a short message and a lot of fun!
MONDAY HIGH SCHOOL GROW GROUPS – All high schoolers are invited to come to the Dewaele’s house for Grow Groups on Monday* nights (*note the change from Sundays to Mondays!) from 6:30-8:30.
We are picking up after Christmas break on January 16th!
Monthly Prayer | Lakes Women meet for prayer the first Saturday of each month from 9:30am to 11:00am!
Quarterly “Chat-a-latte” gathering | Coffee/Tea & fellowship in the lower level Atrium – Next Date: January 14, 2023
1/18 – 3/8: New Women’s Bible Study starting
Weekly Men’s Bible Study | Join the men of The Lakes upstairs on Saturday mornings from 8-9:30am as we study the Word and share life together.
Men’s Tuesday Bible Study | Please join us upstairs as Pastor Greg Alexander leads our weekly Bible study on Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30am
