January 15 | Genesis – Part 16: The God  Who Sees (Pastor Mark Pospisil)

Sometimes we can wonder if the Lord sees and knows what is going on in our lives. This can cause us to retreat in fear or attempt to manipulate and control. This happens to Abram and Sarai in Genesis 16. God promised them a son but it was taking much longer than they thought. Sarai conceives of a foolish plan and gives her servant, Hagar, to Abram in order to have a child through her. It ends horribly. Sarai becomes insecure and jealous while Hagar becomes pompous. Hagar is eventually cast out with no hope. It is in this moment of hopelessness that the Lord seeks her out and saves her. She is amazed and proclaims that the Lord is a “God who sees.” No matter where we find ourselves, from circumstances or even our own decisions, God sees us and wants us to return to Him.

Genesis 16:13 — So she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, “You are a God of seeing,” for she said, “Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.”
