May 31 | 1 John, Without a Shadow of a Doubt – Part 16: If You Know God, You Obey God, 1 John 5:1-5 – Pastor Mark Pospisil

Synopsis: We obey God, not to get salvation. Instead, we obey God because we belong to Him through Jesus Christ. It is the fruit of our salvation. I want to please Him. I get to obey Him. God’s ways are better and bring His blessing in our lives. His commandments are not burdensome instead they are a blessing. Now that I have been born of God, I get these new desires to obey and walk with Him. But, I still have my old sinful flesh that at times “wages war” within me. One of the signs that you belong to Jesus is the struggle we have with temptations. This section of 1 John 5 shows us if we know God, we will want to obey Him. There are three areas that our lives reflect. We are going to see how the Lord has also given us everything we need right now to overcome the temptations of the world around us.

Fighter Verse: 1 John 5:3 – For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.

FAMILY SERVICE | MAY 31

5th Sunday at The Lakes means Family Service! There will be no Lakes Children program for Elementary Age (1st-5th grade) this Sunday. We invite children in this age group to worship together with their families this Sunday! Early childhood (ages Birth-Kindergarten) still available during both the 9:30am and 11:15am services upstairs.

SERVE OPPORTUNITY | JUNE 13

*Volunteer Opportunity*
Our Outreach Ministry is organizing a Senior Dinner event in partnership with Open Door Outreach. Residents within our community are invited to enjoy dinner, games, and a fun afternoon connecting with neighbors and The Lakes Church family.

Three location service opportunities:
– Whispering Woods Community Center
– American Inn and Suites Lobby (7076 Highland Rd, Waterford, 48327)
– Lakeland Place (2700 Elizabeth Lake Rd, Waterford, 48328)

We’re looking for volunteers to help serve, connect, and make the afternoon extra special. You can sign up through the SignUpGenius link or email outreach@thelakescc.org with any questions.

BAPTISM | JUNE 14

Baptism is the natural next step once we are saved! It represents the new life that Jesus’ resurrection gives us and is a public sign of our faith in Christ. If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, we invite you to take this opportunity to demonstrate your faith in Christ.

We will have an opportunity to get baptized during all services on this Sunday. Please fill out this form to let me know you are interested in getting baptized!

VBS | 7/20-23

This summer’s Vacation Bible School at The Lakes Church will be about bringing hope to an anxious generation, as kids learn about the life of David while answering the question, “Is there a God who cares?” Come check out all the fun teachings, crafts, music, games, and more!

Monday, July 20th through Thursday, July 23rd | 6:00pm to 8:30pm nightly.

This event is open to any child Age 4 (must be 4 by 7/20/2026) through entering 5th Grade in the Fall of 2026.

FAMILY CAMPOUT | 7/24-26

Get ready for one of our favorite traditions of the year—our 15th Annual Church Family Outing at Somerset Beach Campground! This is more than just a weekend away—it’s a chance to unplug, recharge, and connect with friends and family in a beautiful lakeside setting.

Whether you’re bringing a camper or pitching a tent, there’s something for everyone:
– Soak up the sun on the beach
– Take a refreshing swim in the lake
– Zipline for a little adventure
– Jump into volleyball, pickleball, or cornhole games
– Wind down with bonfires and great conversations
– Enjoy a classic wagon ride
Or simply relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings

Cost: $68 per campsite (covers both nights)

INFANT AND TODDLER STORYTIME – Looking for a Christ-centered way to break up your day, and get to meet other Moms with Littles? Come check out The Lakes Children Infant & Toddler Story Time. Ages 4 and under. 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month from 10am-12pm in the upper level of the church. – On break until fall

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP – High School students meet on Sundays from 6:30-8:30pm in Lakes West (7150 Cooley Lake Rd, shared upper parking lot).

MONDAY NIGHT YOUNG ADULT GROUP –Looking for community, purpose, and real connection? Join our Young Adult Ministry—a place to grow in faith, build friendships, and navigate life together. Whether you’re in college, starting your career, or figuring things out—we’ve got a seat for you! Ages 18 (post high school) through 29, join us on Mondays from 7:00-9:00pm. We meet weekly at Lakes West (7150 Cooley Lake Rd, shared upper parking lot). Email Ministry leader Dave Borowicz with any questions.
