April 26 | 1 John, Without a Shadow of a Doubt – Part 11: Love in Action Instead of Intention, 1 John 3:11-18 – Pastor Mark Pospisil

Synopsis: The center of our faith is love. 1 John tells us that “God is love.” We can know love as well because it is seen in the sacrifice of Christ and how He laid down His life for us (1 John 3:16). The love of God should not be some distant idea for followers of Christ, but should shape everything about their lives. We are not to love just by our intentions but by our actions. We are to love as God has loved us. Love has the ability to overcome and shape us into being the people the Lord designed us to be. This section of 1 John gives us clear evidence of how knowing the love of God should shape our lives. It also shows us how love is worked out in our daily lives and how to walk in love with our motives and actions.

Fighter Verse: 1 John 3:16 – By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.

What’s Happening?

THEOLOGY REFRESH | APRIL 25

Join us for Theology Refresh—a once-a-month Saturday class designed to deepen your understanding of God’s Word and strengthen your faith. Each month, we’ll explore a different theological topic in a way that’s both engaging and accessible, whether you’re new to the faith or have been walking with Jesus for years. Come ready to learn, ask questions, and be refreshed in your knowledge of who God is and what He has done.

GRANDPARENT GROUP | APRIL 26

Our Grandparent Group meets twice a month to encourage and equip grandparents in their faith and family influence. One Sunday each month will focus on stand-alone topics of faith-based teaching and discussion, designed to strengthen your walk with God and your role as a spiritual leader. The other Sunday will be dedicated to intentional prayer for our families and grandchildren, lifting up the next generations together. Join us in the upper-level large group room at 1pm and be part of this meaningful time of learning, prayer, and community.

OUTREACH COMMUNITY DINNER | MAY 9

Our Outreach Ministry is organizing a Senior Dinner event in partnership with Open Door Outreach. Residents within our community are invited to enjoy dinner, games, and a fun afternoon connecting with neighbors and The Lakes Church family.

Two location service opportunities:

– Whispering Woods Community Center

– American Inn and Suites Lobby (7076 Highland Rd, Waterford, 48327)
– Lakeland Place (2700 Elizabeth Lake Rd, Waterford, 48328)

We’re looking for volunteers to help serve, connect, and make the afternoon extra special. You can sign up through the SignUpGenius link or email outreach@thelakescc.org with any questions.

MEN’S ADVANCE | MAY 15-17

Lakes Men (ages 16+), join us May 15–17 at Faholo Conference Center in Grass Lake, MI, for a transformative weekend away from the busyness of everyday life. Whether you’re looking to grow in your faith or just looking for a chance to reset and connect, this weekend offers something for you—inspiring, practical teaching, real conversations, great food, and plenty of time to relax or jump into optional activities. Come as you are, bring a friend, and take a break that could leave you refreshed and recharged. Cost is $185 for the weekend (includes food and lodging) through April 26, increasing to $195 after (some activities may cost extra).

Core Ministries – Weekly Update

Peter had the Holy Spirit and performed miracles in even the most impossible of circumstances. While God’s power through Peter brought physical healing to many people, it also created the path to bring spiritual healing to the people in those towns!

EARLY CHILDHOOD – Early Childhood (Birth – Kindergarten) program available during the 9:30 and 11:15 Sunday services.

ELEMENTARY AGE (1st-5th grade) – Elementary age program available Sundays during the 9:30 and 11:15 services and Wednesday Kids Creek from 6:30-8pm during the school year!

INFANT AND TODDLER STORYTIME – Looking for a Christ-centered way to break up your day, and get to meet other Moms with Littles? Come check out The Lakes Children Infant & Toddler Story Time. Ages 4 and under. 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month from 10am-12pm in the upper level of the church.

MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP – Middle School students meet on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30pm in Lakes West (7150 Cooley Lake Rd, shared upper parking lot).

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP – High School students meet on Sundays from 6:30-8:30pm in Lakes West (7150 Cooley Lake Rd, shared upper parking lot).

MONDAY NIGHT YOUNG ADULT GROUP –Looking for community, purpose, and real connection? Join our Young Adult Ministry—a place to grow in faith, build friendships, and navigate life together. Whether you’re in college, starting your career, or figuring things out—we’ve got a seat for you! Ages 18 (post high school) through 29, join us on Mondays from 7:00-9:00pm. We meet weekly at Lakes West (7150 Cooley Lake Rd, shared upper parking lot). Email Ministry leader Dave Borowicz with any questions.
