May 3 | 1 John, Without a Shadow of a Doubt – Part 12: The Gift of Assurance, 1 John 3:19-24 – Pastor Mark Pospisil

Synopsis: We all have questions, at times, about our status and standing with the Lord. Sometimes, our hearts condemn us and we question our salvation or if God really loves us. There is something special about knowing you belong to Jesus. The Lord wants us to have great confidence in our standing with Him. He gives us the gift of assurance. We can know, without a shadow of a doubt, that we are going to heaven and that God is with us now. Assurance is found in the nature of God, the power of the Holy Spirit, and also when we abide or obey the Lord. The fruit of our lives and the transformation that God has done shows evidence that we belong to Him. This section of 1 John is all about the gift of assurance and how it gives us great confidence in God.

Fighter Verse: 1 John 3:19-20 – By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him; for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.

MEND ON THE MOVE | MAY 3

This Sunday, May 3, Mend on the Move will have a table set up in the atrium. Mend on the Move creates beautiful jewelry from repurposed auto parts, each piece handcrafted by survivors of abuse right here in Metro Detroit. Stop by to learn more about their mission and how every purchase helps provide hope, dignity, and meaningful employment for the women they serve.

Q&A | MAY 3

Stick around after the third service on the first Sunday of each month for a Q&A time with Pastor Mark. This is a great opportunity to ask questions about the message, faith, or anything you’ve been wondering about. Pastor Mark will take time to share insights, dive a little deeper into Scripture, and have real conversations about life and faith. Don’t miss this chance to connect, learn, and grow together!

OUTREACH COMMUNITY DINNER | MAY 9

Our Outreach Ministry is organizing a Senior Dinner event in partnership with Open Door Outreach. Residents within our community are invited to enjoy dinner, games, and a fun afternoon connecting with neighbors and The Lakes Church family.

Two location service opportunities:

– Whispering Woods Community Center

– American Inn and Suites Lobby (7076 Highland Rd, Waterford, 48327)
– Lakeland Place (2700 Elizabeth Lake Rd, Waterford, 48328)

CHAT-A-LATTE | MAY 16

All Lakes Women are welcome and encouraged to attend our Chat-a-latte from 9:30-11:00am in the atrium. Bring a friend, and come relax, drink coffee (or tea), enjoy one another’s company, and get to know some new people!

MEN’S ADVANCE | MAY 15-17

Lakes Men (ages 16+), join us May 15–17 at Faholo Conference Center in Grass Lake, MI, for a transformative weekend away from the busyness of everyday life. Whether you’re looking to grow in your faith or just looking for a chance to reset and connect, this weekend offers something for you—inspiring, practical teaching, real conversations, great food, and plenty of time to relax or jump into optional activities. Come as you are, bring a friend, and take a break that could leave you refreshed and recharged. Cost is $185 for the weekend (includes food and lodging) through April 26, increasing to $195 after (some activities may cost extra).

Core Ministries – Weekly Update

God saves all who come to faith in His Son, regardless of their upbringing, their past experiences, or their cultural differences. The gospel is for all people – God shows no favoritism. The ones whom God calls clean are clean; the ones He brings into His family are in His family forever.

EARLY CHILDHOOD – Early Childhood (Birth – Kindergarten) program available during the 9:30 and 11:15 Sunday services.

ELEMENTARY AGE (1st-5th grade) – Elementary age program available Sundays during the 9:30 and 11:15 services and Wednesday Kids Creek from 6:30-8pm during the school year!

INFANT AND TODDLER STORYTIME – Looking for a Christ-centered way to break up your day, and get to meet other Moms with Littles? Come check out The Lakes Children Infant & Toddler Story Time. Ages 4 and under. 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month from 10am-12pm in the upper level of the church.

Whether you’re in college, starting your career, or figuring things out—we’ve got a seat for you! Ages 18 (post high school) through 29, join us on Mondays from 7:00-9:00pm.
