January 29 | Genesis – Part 18: Saving the City (Pastor Mark Pospisil)
Interceding is the idea of praying or standing in the gap for another. It is being an advocate for someone. It is a powerful theme throughout the Bible. Jesus perfectly intercedes for us. He has also called us to be in that role for others. In Genesis 18, there is an interesting and even peculiar interaction between God and Abraham. Abraham intercedes on behalf of his family and also whole cities. The Lord has given us the ability and calling, all of us. to do the same for our families and communities.
Genesis 18:25 – Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?

What’s Happening?
5TH SUNDAY FAMILY SERVICE | THIS SUNDAY!
5th Sunday at The Lakes means Family Service! There will be no Lakes Children program for Elementary Age (1st-5th grade) this Sunday. We invite children in this age group to worship together with their families this Sunday! Early childhood (ages Birth-Kindergarten) still available during both services.
SHINE SPECIAL NEEDS SERVICE | THIS SUNDAY, JANUARY 29TH
Join us this Sunday at 1pm in 219 (2nd floor large group room).
Our Monthly prayer service is centered around music, prayer, Bible stories and simple life lessons. All ages and abilities are welcome to come and be free to be themselves while actively participating as a contributing member of an inclusive and loving faith community at The Lakes Church. WOMEN’S POTLUCK | FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 6:30-10PM
Hors d’oeuvres and desserts, fun and games, and fellowship with your Lakes women friends; maybe even meet some new friends, or bring that friend who needs this community!
Come right at 6:30 or come at 8 when the kids are in bed. Stay the whole evening, or pop in for half an hour. Bring your favorite appetizer or that yummy dessert! Don’t miss this opportunity for community!
WORSHIP TEAM MEETING | SUNDAY, 2/5 AT 12:30PM (AFTER 2ND SERVICE)
If you are a part of, or interested in becoming a part of planning and executing worship here at the Lakes, the Worship Team will have a meeting next Sunday after second service right here in the Worship Center with some updates for the ministry, and an opportunity to learn more about how you can be a part of what goes into making our worship services happen. This is both for those currently involved with the ministry and for anyone interested in either musical worship or any of the behind the scenes stuff like lights, sound and other tech.

WOMEN’S CONFERENCE – THE IF:GATHERING | 3/3-4
We are so excited to host a live-streaming of the If:gathering this year, right here at The Lakes, as an If:Local location. We will be gathering on March 3-4 (Friday night-Saturday afternoon) for a simulcast of IF:2023 women’s conference in Dallas TX, and want YOU and our local community of women to join us!

Core Ministries – Weekly Update
EARLY CHILDHOOD – Early Childhood (Birth – Kindergarten) program available during the 9 and 11 Sunday services.
ELEMENTARY AGE (KIDS CREEK) – *
THIS WEEK – *Reminder: It’s 5th Sunday which means Family Service – no Lakes Children program for Elementary Age (1st-5th grade) this Sunday!
All our talk about creation so far this year, brings us to a difficult lesson. Before the fall, Adam and Eve enjoyed a loving, two-way relationship with God. He filled the garden with good gifts so that they might enjoy them and give Him thanks. But Adam and Eve desired more….they wanted the one forbidden fruit and the wisdom they thought it offered. But, like often happens, when their eyes were opened, they didn’t get exactly what they were expecting!
THURSDAY YOUTH GROUP – Middle School and High School students meet on Thursdays from 6:30-8:30pm for a combined youth group service.
MONDAY HIGH SCHOOL GROW GROUPS – All high schoolers are invited to come to the Dewaeles’ house for Grow Groups on Monday* nights (*note the change from Sundays to Mondays!) from 6:30-8:30pm.
Monthly Prayer | Lakes Women meet for prayer the first Saturday of each month from 9:30am to 11:00am!
Quarterly “Chat-a-latte” gathering | Coffee/Tea & fellowship in the lower level Atrium – stay tuned for our next date!
Friday 2/3: Women’s Potluck – Hors D’oeuvres & Dessert
March 3-4: The If:gathering – registration to open next week!
Weekly Men’s Bible Study | Join the men of The Lakes upstairs on Saturday mornings from 8-9:30am as we study the Word and share life together.
Men’s Tuesday Bible Study | Please join us upstairs as Pastor Greg Alexander leads our weekly Bible study on Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30am
