August 20 | Proverbs – The Wisdom of God for Today’s Issues: Part 3 – The Power of the Tongue – Mark Pospisil
Synopsis: There is an old saying, “sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me”. This is categorically false as words can wound deeper than objects. According to the Lord, the tongue holds great power. It can build up or tear down. It can heal or wound. It can create or destroy. Our words matter and Jesus was clear that we will give an account for every idle word (Matthew 12:36). This week, we will see how Proverbs addresses the power of the tongue and how to glorify God with our words.
Fighter Verse: Proverbs 18:21 – Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.

New around here? Join us for lunch in the large group room (219) upstairs after the second service at 1pm and get to know The Lakes; our mission, leadership, core values, ministries, and where you fit in! Discovering the Lakes is once a month, so please take note of the date here!

WOMEN’S RETREAT | OCTOBER 6-8
Lakes Women (18+) join us for this exciting weekend filled with inspiring teaching, fun activities and great food, and plenty of time to relax and hang out with other women. Learn about having an “Abundant Life” (John 10:10) and be challenged in your spiritual growth with Biblical messages that will strengthen you as women of faith.
This event will be held at Faholo Conference Center in Grass Lake, MI from October 6-8. The cost for food and lodging for the weekend is $175 (until 9/1) and $185 after (with some activities costing extra).

Core Ministries – Weekly Update
40 years is over…done…finito!!! Moses would never enter the promised land, but God encouraged Joshua and promised to be with him as he led the Israelites into Canaan, where they would be victorious and find rest! This week’s lesson is all about the courage we can only receive through God during our biggest challenges.
EARLY CHILDHOOD – Early Childhood (Birth – Kindergarten) program available during the 9:30 and 11:30 Sunday services.
ELEMENTARY AGE (1st-5th grade) – Elementary age program available Sundays during The 9:30 and 11:30 services and Tuesday Kids Creek from 6:30-8pm during the school year!

THURSDAY YOUTH GROUP – Middle School and High School students meet on Thursdays from 6:30-8:30pm for a combined youth group service.
