May 17 | 1 John, Without a Shadow of a Doubt – Part 14: God is Love, 1 John 4:7-12 – Pastor Mark Pospisil
Synopsis: God is love. This is a loaded statement from this section of 1 John 4. Love is not just an action but it is part of the very nature of God. Love is one of the most powerful forces in the cosmos. Love is manifested in what God did for us. He sent forth His only Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus. It is not that we were loveable but while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. It is the most amazing love in the world and one we were created to experience. When we know the love of God in Christ, it transforms us to love as God has loved us. If we do not love, it is evidence that we might not belong to God at all. John says it like this, “anyone who does not love does not know God.” This morning, we are going to unpack what it means that “God is love” and how this changes us to love others.
Fighter Verse: 1 John 4:8 – Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

This summer’s Vacation Bible School at The Lakes Church will be about bringing hope to an anxious generation, as kids learn about the life of David while answering the question, “Is there a God who cares?” Come check out all the fun teachings, crafts, music, games, and more!
Monday, July 20th through Thursday, July 23rd | 6:00pm to 8:30pm nightly.
This event is open to any child Age 4 (must be 4 by 7/20/2026) through entering 5th Grade in the Fall of 2026.
FAMILY CAMPOUT | 7/24-26
Get ready for one of our favorite traditions of the year—our 15th Annual Church Family Outing at Somerset Beach Campground! This is more than just a weekend away—it’s a chance to unplug, recharge, and connect with friends and family in a beautiful lakeside setting.
Whether you’re bringing a camper or pitching a tent, there’s something for everyone:
– Soak up the sun on the beach
– Take a refreshing swim in the lake
– Zipline for a little adventure
– Jump into volleyball, pickleball, or cornhole games
– Wind down with bonfires and great conversations
– Enjoy a classic wagon ride
Or simply relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings
Cost: $68 per campsite (covers both nights)

Core Ministries – Weekly Update
Even though King Herod wanted to make an example of Peter by throwing him in prison, God showcased His power and might amidst the persecution of the church. The power of prayer by the early church during these hardships trusted God’s purposes for His church despite whatever the enemy throws at it.
EARLY CHILDHOOD – Early Childhood (Birth – Kindergarten) program available during the 9:30 and 11:15 Sunday services.
ELEMENTARY AGE (1st-5th grade) – Elementary age program available Sundays during the 9:30 and 11:15 services and Wednesday Kids Creek from 6:30-8pm during the school year!
INFANT AND TODDLER STORYTIME – Looking for a Christ-centered way to break up your day, and get to meet other Moms with Littles? Come check out The Lakes Children Infant & Toddler Story Time. Ages 4 and under. 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month from 10am-12pm in the upper level of the church.

MONDAY NIGHT YOUNG ADULT GROUP –Looking for community, purpose, and real connection? Join our Young Adult Ministry—a place to grow in faith, build friendships, and navigate life together. Whether you’re in college, starting your career, or figuring things out—we’ve got a seat for you! Ages 18 (post high school) through 29, join us on Mondays from 7:00-9:00pm. We meet weekly at Lakes West (7150 Cooley Lake Rd, shared upper parking lot). Email Ministry leader Dave Borowicz with any questions.
