Romans 6:17
But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed.
The gospel is not the ABC’s of the Christian faith, but the A to Z’s. It not only saves us but sustains and transforms us. The Lord is about freedom. He wants us to be free in all areas and spheres of our lives. God is in the business of taking people who are slaves and setting them free. It is a theme throughout the entire Bible. Think about the book of Exodus how Israel is set free from the Egyptian captors. This is all foreshadowing the ultimate freedom that is found through Jesus Christ. Apart from the Lord, all people are slaves to sin. Jesus says in John 8:34, “everyone who sins is a slave to sin.” Jesus came to free us, not only from the penalty of sin, but from the power of sin as well. He saved us from death and hell and saves us to life and heaven.
PRAYER – Think of someone you know who needs to be set free from sin’s power. Pray that they would meet Jesus and know His incredible love and grace. Pray also for any area that you feel enslaved in your life that the Lord would set your free.
