August 3 | Ordinary People, Extraordinary God – The Prodigal Sons, Luke 15:11-32 – Pastor Mark Pospisil

Synopsis: Grace is one of the most precious and true words in the Bible. The Lord is the giver of grace. The grace of God is freely given to us through Jesus. Sometimes, people can be blind to their desperate need for grace and think that they are accepted by God through what they do or don’t do. Jesus addresses the problems with this thinking by giving three successive parables about lost things being found. The longest one is the story of the prodigal son. It is actually a story about two lost sons. One who ran away and one who stayed, who was equally as lost. This story shows us that there are no “righteous” people and we are all in need of grace. It leaves us with a choice to make, do we receive or reject the grace of God?

Fighter Verse: Luke 15:32 – “It was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.”

40 DAYS IN THE NEW TESTAMENT
This summer, The Lakes Church is reading through the New Testament in 40 days. It will be one of the best things for our spiritual growth this summer. We want everybody to be involved in seeking the Lord through His Word. Listen to what Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” All it takes is a small commitment to read through the New Testament in 40 days.
Make sure to pick up your bookmark this Sunday to keep track of your daily reading! You can also follow along here.
WOMEN’S RETREAT | 9/26-28
This summer, The Lakes Church is reading through the New Testament in 40 days.

Ladies, it’s time to trade your to-do lists for “I’ll get it done later,” your chaos for calm, and your leggings for… okay, definitely keep the leggings.

Join us for a weekend of laughter, worship, sisterhood, and maybe even a few rare moments of silence (miracles happen!). Teri Miller is going to bring us into the Word as we learn more about the Armor of God—not just to admire it, but to learn how to actually wear it without tripping over our own spiritual shoelaces. Whether you’re spiritually soaring or just here for the snacks and Jesus, there’s a place for you.

Pack your Bible, your favorite mug, and your “highly caffeinated” self—we’re retreating into rest, renewal, and ridiculous amounts of fun!
