March 22 | 1 John, Without a Shadow of a Doubt – Part 7: Love God, Not the World, 1 John 2:15-17 – Pastor Mark Pospisil

Synopsis: One of the things we are constantly told to be on guard against is loving the world. What does that mean? What we’re not talking about is the “world” as in our globe or the Earth. It is also not talking about the world as the idea of people. Remember that God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son to save it (John 3:16). Instead it is talking about the world system that is opposed to God. The temptations of the world come at us in three different ways – the lust of our flesh (sinful desires), lust of our eyes, or the pride of life. In this section of 1 John, we are told to love God, not the world. What the world offers is temporary and will eventually pass away but what God has is eternal and lasts forever.

Fighter Verse: 1 John 2:15 – Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

What’s Happening?

FAMILY SERVICE | MARCH 29

5th Sunday at The Lakes means Family Service! There will be no Lakes Children program for Elementary Age (1st-5th grade) this Sunday. We invite children in this age group to worship together with their families this Sunday! Early childhood (ages Birth-Kindergarten) still available during both the 9:30am and 11:15am services upstairs.

GOOD FRIDAY | APRIL 3

Join us at The Lakes Church on April 3 for our Good Friday services at 12pm and 6:30pm. Together, we will reflect on and remember the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. Children’s programming will be available for ages birth through 4 years old, so your whole family can participate in this meaningful time of worship.

EASTER SUNDAY | APRIL 5

We celebrate the cornerstone of Christianity, the resurrection of Jesus and the new life He gives to us! This year we will have FOUR services, and we can’t wait to celebrate with each of you at one of them! Join us at 7:15am, 8:30am, 10:00am, 11:30am, with full Lakes Children programming available in the 8:30am, 10:00am and 11:30am services.

We will also have baptism at all services on Easter. Please fill out this form to let Pastor Mark know if you are interested in getting baptized!

Core Ministries – Weekly Update

Acts 6 and 7 tell the story of Stephen and his unwavering faith. Despite the rejection he faced, Stephen remained firm in his gospel witness to those around him. This week, we’ll consider what it looks like for followers of Jesus to be so filled with the Holy Spirit that they remain on mission for the gospel, no matter the cost.

EARLY CHILDHOOD – Early Childhood (Birth – Kindergarten) program available during the 9:30 and 11:15 Sunday services.

ELEMENTARY AGE (1st-5th grade) – Elementary age program available Sundays during the 9:30 and 11:15 services and Wednesday Kids Creek from 6:30-8pm during the school year!

INFANT AND TODDLER STORYTIME – Looking for a Christ-centered way to break up your day, and get to meet other Moms with Littles? Come check out The Lakes Children Infant & Toddler Story Time. Ages 4 and under. 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month from 10am-12pm in the upper level of the church.

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP – High School students meet on Sundays from 6:30-8:30pm in Lakes West (7150 Cooley Lake Rd, shared upper parking lot).

GROW GROUPS – Join us for a bible study open to our High School Students from 5-6:30pm, location varies. Follow our Instagram to stay up to date with current information and any changes. @thelakesyouth

Whether you’re in college, starting your career, or figuring things out—we’ve got a seat for you! Ages 18 (post high school) through 29, join us on Mondays from 7:00-9:00pm.
