Who’s Your One?

The Lakes Community Church is asking our people to be part of the “Who’s Your One?” movement.  We want to experience the Lord’s joy as lost people are found in Christ (Luke 15:1-10). As we follow Jesus, we want to make Him known and share Him with others. He called us the salt of the earth and the light of the world. He also told us in Matthew 28:18-20 to make disciples of all nations. This can feel like a daunting task. Instead of being overwhelmed with how big the need is, we are asking our people to focus on the “one.” The one person that the Lord has brought in our lives to pray for, love, minister to, and share the gospel with. We are praying and expecting the Lord to lead many people in our community to faith in Jesus Christ.

We want to provide you with resources to help encourage and equip you. Reaching out to others can feel intimidating, awkward, and difficult for many Christians, so we created this page to assist you. We want to thank the North American Mission Board (NAMB) as we borrowed some of the resources from them.

Sharing the Gospel

We have the best news in the world to share! Though we were separated from God, He loved us so much that He sent His Son Jesus to die for us.

The one verse that every Christians needs to know is Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” This encompasses the whole gospel message. The Navigators provides a free training called One-Verse Evangelism with how to share Christ’s love conversationally and visually. We highly recommend this.

Here are other free resources to share the gospel and equip you:

  • Knowing Jesus (a gospel presentation from The Lakes following the “Romans Road” to share with others)
  • Two Ways To Live (an illustrated explanation from Matthias Media)
  • What Is Christianity? (a 3-minute gospel presentation video from The Good Book Company)
  • 3 Circles (a short video provided by NAMB)
  • PeacewithGod.net (a free resource provided by The Billy Graham Evangelistic Institute)
  • Rico Tice provides an evangelism seminar to help you share with others

Building Friendships

There are many different ways to share the gospel and be effective. One of those is building friendships with non-believers. Jesus is constantly doing this. We want to be intentional with our neighbors, co-workers, and those around us.

One way to grow in our abilities to build friendships with non-Christians is to practice hospitality. Hospitality welcomes the stranger and invites others in our lives. Rosaria Butterfield offers valuable advice on practicing hospitality in her book The Gospel Comes With a House Key and in the video Loving the Stranger: Awakening & Hospitality. In two brief articles, Butterfield has also explained “Why Hospitality is for all Christians” and how “Christian Hospitality is Radically Different from Southern Hospitality.”

Addressing Objections to Christianity

Many people have intellectual objections to Christianity. Rebecca McLaughlin provides an excellent resource for knowing how to answer these common objections winsomely in her book Confronting Christianity: 12 Hard Questions for the World’s Largest Religion.

Tim Keller also addresses skeptics and questions in this video Making Sense of God: An Invitation to the Skeptical.

More Evangelism Resources

Honest Evangelism by Rico Tice is a succinct book that equips you how to share the gospel simply with others.

Out of the Saltshaker and into the World by Rebecca Pippert is a classic on how to make evangelism a way of life. It encourages and shows how to be relaxed and enthusiastic about sharing Christ with others.

One Thing You Can’t Do In Heaven by Mark Cahill is a practical book that gives great ideas for starting conversations and also solid answers to commonly ask questions.
